Running Red Hat Linux 5.0 (Hurricane, 1997) on a Virtual Machine

I have this really nasty sinus infection/cold, so I don't have much to do today... with that said, I took the day to play around with my old Linux CDs. I've already posted about getting Red Hat Linux 4.2 (Biltmore, 1997) running on a Virtual Machine. I have also gotten Red Hat Linux 5.0 (Hurricane, 1997), Red Hat Linux 6.1 (Cartman, 1999) and Red Hat Linux 7.2 (Enigma, 2001).

The swap space limitation is hilarious! 128 Mb total, I actually picked 64Mb, because even 128Mb complained it was too much.

MetroX X Server was a commercial version of the X Server that for a while Red Hat would bundle its OS with... Setting up X used to be such a pain in the butt, even to get it working on my virtual environment was tough.

MetroX X based configuration tool was kinda of nice.

514 Mb was the complete install with 'Everything' selected.

One of my favorite games ever xbill :-) Maybe it should have been called: Kill Bill :-)

Another instance of commercial software packaged with Red Hat, Real Player. Note in the background, I tried to start up 'The Gimp' but it cored dumped on me :-)
