you can try infinality packages,it smoothens the font and overall readablity.

steps:
1.install the infinality repo
2.go to add or remove programs in fedora 15/14 and search for 'infinality'.
2.install the 2 other packages in the list there and you are done.

Hi, thank you for posting this walk through, it has been very helpful. I am new to doing dual boots so I am having trouble understanding some of it. Where it says:

"On your GRUB screen, hit tab, and add: nomodeset parameter to boot without loading GUI boot screen."

I'm not exactly sure what a GRUB screen is and so I tried to wing it but I could not find a place to enter the word "nomodeset". I stopped there because I didn't want to mess anything up.

Also I am not sure how to tell what device my boot is mounting based on your example:

"Make sure GRUB gets installed on whatever device your /boot is mounting. Mine is /dev/sda3"

Many thanks for a clear, well-written guide which enabled me to get Quake3 fully working on Fedora 14 (i386)!

I'd already installed 1.32b as you described, but wasn't aware that there was a 1.32c patch available. Also, I'd seen the OSS stuff described in various forums, but not the modprobe stuff that was necessary to create the file in the first place.

And it seems to make a difference which version of the program you run. On my dual core, if I run quake3, there's no sound. Running quake3-smp gives full sound, though with that one I do need to enter that musicvolume command before starting. Otherwise the computer completely freezes up as soon as I start a game.

The only problem I have now is that the damn thing seems to run massively quicker than it did back in the day on my old Windows XP box. Well, it's either that or my ageing reflexes at work...

Thanks for the great article. I had been an Apple fanatic since I got my first powerbook back in 1998. I recently got an iphone 3gs from ATT and had nothing but trouble from day one. It was, for some reason locked into trying to tether and after an hour call to Apple, who finally said it was ATT's fault and then another 2 hours with several ATT techs blaming it on Apple, I said enough! I went to the ATT store to exchange it and was told that because it was an iphone, there is a 10% restocking fee because all iPhones have to be purchased from Apple and then sold to us and if one is returned they have to charge. I was so angry and after another hour with ATT customer service, I finally got it through to them that it was DEFECTIVE and if I got a restocking fee, I would cancel every person in my families accounts(because my contract was up anyway). I exchanged it for a Palm Pre Plus. I gotta tell ya, I love the phone. Sure it has differences from the iphone, but you simply can not beat the fact that the Pre MULTITASKS like a beast! I do miss the voice dial, but all in all in my opinion it beats the iPhone hands down.
